THEO PARRISH SKETCHES 3X12” (sound signature, usa)
limited edition of 150, hand painted covers. sold out within hours of release, only two copies were available per shop. the first of my two went to australia within minutes of listing. this set has sold for as high as 800usd, offers less than 600 (cash in hand only) will be considered.
“record collector” hype aside, this is an amazing set both in concept and attack. six sides of classic theo parrish deep detroit sounds packaged in three beautiful hand painted/printed sleeves in what could be summed up as 21st century art brut. this set goes above and beyond “limited edition dance release” and should be considered the limited edition print series/work of art that it is.

RAYMOND PETTIBON THE BOOKS 1978-1998: HARDCOVER/U.S. FIRST EDITION BOOK (d.a.p./distributed art publishers, inc., usa)
like new condition, hard cover, first english language edition. Stout 8vo. Pictorial Self Wrappers. Catalogue Raisonné. 899pp, profusely illustrated in b&w. Designed by Silke Fahnert and Uwe Koch. “Raymond Pettibon: The Books 1978-1998” is a massive compendium of the renowned Southern California based artist’s self-published, photocopied booklets and exhibition catalogues, including a full catalogue raisonné containing one hundred and eleven entries-each providing edition details and front cover reproductions. In addition, thirty-two original Pettibon artist books are reproduced here in their entirety including two previously unpublished books from the artist’s archive.
For over twenty years, Raymond Pettibon’s drawings have earned an international following for their fluid style and youthful, iconoclastic outlook. His work is acclaimed for its wit and erudite eccentricities, and reveals an affinity for a diverse group of authors — from Baudelaire to Henry James to Mickey Spillane — whose quotations abound in his drawings. This book is a catalogue raisonne of his artist books produced between 1978 and 1998, many of which are now extremely rare and highly collected in both the art world and underground music circles. Popularized by small, independent music labels and publishers like SST and Superflux, these booklets and ‘zines were originally available only in very small print runs — edition sizes ranged from 30 to 150 copies, where Pettibon’s rough yet cultivated style became synonymous with the late 70s and early 80s D.I.Y. aesthetic. Presenting over a hundred of Pettibon’s publications — 32 printed in their entirety with two of these published for the first time — this very limited edition hardcover is a valuable look at the development of one of the most significant artists from the last quarter century.

VACUUM VACUUM 7” (siltbreeze, usa)
Although they only got a couple of spins around the earth’s axis, Vacuum was the band who wrote the clay tablets from which all great Christchurch bands would glean substance to formulate THAT sound. Originating in 1977 & consisting of members Bill Direen, Stephen Cogle, Peter Stapleton, Peter Fryer & Alan Meek, Vacuum perfected an aural symmetry that fused classic Nuggets, Roxy, Elevators & Velvets moves as a template & this unique plonk would become germane for all that sailed after. Deep collectors will recognize these tracks by name from various prior releases, but these particular recordings-culled from 78/79 rehearsal tapes-are being made available here for the 1st time, EVER. ‘Kicks’ would go on to become an early staple in Direen’s Builders discography, but the guitar on this version is particularly & wonderfully unhinged. The beautiful serenity of Cogle’s ‘Shade’ - masterfully driven by Meek’s keyboard—is as crisp out of the gate as the later honed version familiar in the oeuvre of the Victor Dimisich Band. The real thunderclap of the bunch is ‘Accident’ (another take can be found on The Builders ‘Beatin Hearts’ lp) where it sounds like someone spiked the Tia Maria with peyote & as a result, the band has psychically disemboweled ‘Heard Her Call My Name’ & fed the guts to Amon Duul. One time edition of 300. File alongside; Six Impossible Things, Pin Group, Builders, Victor Dimisich Band, Above Ground, Scorched Earth Policy, Dadamah & Terminals.

GISM DEATH EXCLAMATIONS: FIEND CLUB EDITION LP (no label, germany)
one of the rarest (of the known to actually exist) releases by the cult japanese rock band gism (aka: G.I.S.M., guerrilla incendiary sabotage mutineer, god in the schizoid mind, general imperialism social murder, genocide infanticide suicide menticide, gnostic idiosyncrasy sonic militant), this is the fan club (fiend club) edition of 20 on black vinyl with stickers and extra insert (pictured above) of the (slightly) less rare standard edition lp (that was pressed on splattered yellow vinyl, done in an edition of 200… i used to have this one as well, but sold it to kenji of time bomb records at a wfmu record fair sometime in the late 90s).
from the special “fiend club” insert: “limited edition of 20 copies, black vinyl, test press, hard cover. limited edition of 200 copies,
picture disc, upcoming. 50 copies are coming with free “anarchy&violence”7”ep!!! this record is made by a great fan for other fans. so, bruno, don’t compare this with other official records everybody could buy. it’s not made for everybody! this LP is my personal cult. if you don’t like it- OKAY. but it’s NOT MADE FOR Y O U ! ! !. GO HOME!!! GISM FIEND CLUB c/o SUCKER M.C. new york”i have been the sole owner of this record since it’s release, obtained from the producer (with whom i traded regularly and who was also responsible for other great japanese fan club releases of that time, such as the comes- waving tits 7”, confuse- atrocious madness 7”, the aforementioned gism- anarchy and vilolence 7”, v/a- make war not love lp, as well as a reissue of the cult u.s. hard core ep, 700 club by koro). i could tell you his name, but you’d be dinner for vultures if i did, so don’t ask.
this version was never made available for sale and was only distributed to die-hard fans around the world (note that it is #5 of 20). it includes all the original ephemera (stickers and extra info sheet). the condition is about as close to mint as you’ll likely ever see, there’s a couple of very light surface marks, but none that have any affect on fidelity. this record sounds (and looks) awesome (and the sound clips on youtube don’t even approach doing it justice)!!
the asking price is high, but i can’t stress the scarcity of this release enough and said price is negotiable to some degree if paying in cash. serious inquires only.

AUTUMN SYNTHESIZE LP (minimal wave, usa)
The twenty-seventh release on Minimal Wave is Autumn‘s ‘Synthesize’ LP, selections from the bands best material. Autumn was the legendary project of Peter Bonne and Geert Coppens, two Belgian teenagers who started experimenting with the potentials of analog synthesizers during the late 70s and formed a band together soon after in 1980, quickly becoming one of the most truly visionary groups to emerge from the synth scene in Europe. The album is titled after their Synthesize single which was recorded along with its b-side ‘The Third Autumn’ in 1981 in a professional 24 track studio in only 7 hours. Both songs became modest summer hits in Belgian dance clubs in 1982, and the release been highly sought after ever since. This album features ‘Synthesize’ and ‘The Third Autumn’, along with other cassette only favorites like ‘I Say You Hello’, ‘Not Afraid To Die’, and ‘Night In June’ (featured on Angular’s Cold Wave & Minimal Electronics compilation in 2010). Considering how young Autumn were when they recorded these songs, the production is very impressive. These multi-layered synthpop gems are catchy, danceable and definitely ahead of their time. ‘I Say You Hello’ has been described as an “amazing” piece of synth music with “insanely catchy vocals, an incredible bass line and some mind-melting analog patterns”.
Autumn was previously featured on V/A The Lost Tapes LP with their ‘Time Is On Our Side’, a magical piece of dark synth wave music. Due to heavy interest in the band and our general love for all Micrart Group projects, we decided a full LP needed to be released. Thus we present it to you: a hand-numbered, limited edition pressing on 180 gram clear green vinyl housed in a heavy printed gloss jacket.

shop favorite/essential restocked… Minimal Wave presents a full length album by cult UK duo Circuit 7, founded by Martyn Good and Andy Partington. They released 2 singles, “Modern Story” and the amazing “Video Boys” and a few tracks on the legendary “Offering of Isca” compilation between 1983 and 1985. The album features the single version of “Video Boys” as well as an unreleased studio version, and other incredible tracks like “Beat Tonight”, “The Force”, and “Modern Story”. Most of the material is rare or previously unavailable. The music falls into the minimal synth / synthpunk / new wave category while some songs can be classified as post-punk. ALVARIUS B. BAROQUE PRIMITIVA CD/BOOK (abduction, usa)
A much-needed CD issue of an LP, released this last February in microquantities, available at a reduced price for a limited time (and said reduced price is limited to in-shop purchases only)… The dastardly minds behind this project, a first spurt from the reactivated Poon Village label, have collaborated on the new package as well. And it is a deluxe eye-swim through various forms of feminine beauty, its 32-page booklet displaying images that look as though they were found in a smoky catacomb carved into the hills of Charlestown. By my count, Baroque Primitiva is the sixth album by Alvarius B. and is, like its predecessors, a deep dive through mysterious waters. The 11 tracks here were recorded at various sessions over the course of several years and range from ‘Humor Police’ (a track imagining what Syd Barrett might have sounded like had he been a devotee of Rembetika) to a trippily Beatles-damaged version of ‘You Only Live Twice’ (the sole surviving shard of the aborted Alvarius B. Plays The Bond Songbook project). Baroque Primitiva is the first long-format telegram from Alvarius B. since he lost his mothership (the Sun City Girls, with whom he employed his slave name, Alan Bishop) and it also feels like his most consistently non-acerbic — perhaps even most beauty-oriented — work. The songs often have a meditative pace, filled with gorgeous lo-fi blends of vocals, guitar, bass and keys. Eyvind Kang guests on several tracks, but the bulk of the material was broadcast direct from the naked soul of Alvarius B., which turns out to be a warmer, sweeter place than you might imagine. And while this CD will be available for a tad longer than the 30 seconds the LP lasted, a set as thoroughly gorgeous as this will not linger. Take a deep breath of its magic and go for it. Why deny yourself such bountiful pleasures? —Byron Coley

V/A BAY AREA RETROGRADE (BART) VOL. 1 LP (dark entries, usa)
Bay Area Retrograde (BART) Volume 1 is Dark Entries’ first compilation of underground music from San Francisco (and the greater Bay Area) in the 1980s. Towards the end of the 70s, San Francisco experimental music clashed with the aftermath of punk and gave birth to a vibrant underground scene. By the early to mid 80s the DIY music scene of the Bay Area was a hotbed for experimental and quirky new wave, post punk, and synthpop, quite similar to New York’s No Wave scene and Berlin’s Neue Deutsche Welle. This compilation literally connects the (transit) lines between these varied musical offerings and tells the secret story of eleven forgotten Bay Area bands and contains four previously unreleased tracks on vinyl, until now!
BART Volume 1 features a Korg-heavy assault from Danville’s utterly obscure Nominal State; two little-known left-field electronic dance gems from Batang Frisco and Quiet Room; Berkeley’s answer to darkwave, Necropolis of Love; a synth-driven drama fest from drag performance troupe Wasp Women; quirky lo-fi gothic pop from one man band Distant Thunder; a gay Hi-NRG anthem delivered by Danny Boy and the Serious Party Gods; two lesser know gems from SF synth legends Voice Farm and Los Microwaves; and the futuristic pulsing synth-punk of Standard of Living and the Units.
All tracks have been carefully remastered by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. Each LP is housed in a large 6-panel fold out poster by with liner notes by Johnny Ray Huston, original photos, fliers and artwork documenting this fertile period. BART is more widely know as the acronym for Bay Area Rapid Transit, the main rail transportation system for the San Francisco Bay Area and the band on this compilation. This LP is by no means a definitive compilation but merely opens the tunnel to the underground sounds of the Bay!

GARY WILSON YOU THINK YOU REALLY KNOW ME LP (cry baby, usa)
opened, dead-stock copies of the cry baby records reissue of this private press/outsider classic… Gary Wilson went to Albert Grossman’s Bearsville Studios in Woodstock, New York in 1976, a well-known recording studio that has played host to sessions by Bob Dylan, R.E.M., Patti Smith, The Rolling Stones and many other notable acts. There, Wilson recorded versions of “6.4=Make Out”, “Chromium Bitch”, “Groovy Girls”, and “I Want To Lose Control”. He eventually decided that he would prefer to record at his familiar home studio and finished recording You Think You Really Know Me, his first album, in his parents’ basement. On this recording, Wilson sometimes played solo and was other times accompanied by a backing band, The Blind Dates. He pressed, distributed, funded and released the album himself. Wilson pressed 300 copies in 1977 and a further 300 copies in 1979 (he now claims that he only has one original copy left in his personal possession from these pressings). A few years later (well, roughly around 1990), Cry Baby Records would re-release the album, pressing about 1000 copies, of which a third of the pressing were destroyed in a basement flood. last copies.

PLAINSONG IN SEARCH OF AMELIA EARHART LP (vinyl lovers, russia)
shop favorite finally reissued on the preferred format… Originally released in 1972 for Elektra, In Search Of Amelia Earhart was a critically-acclaimed concept album inspired by Amelia Earhart’s mysterious disappearance in 1939. For this album, Ian Matthews, who had released a flurry of excellent albums since leaving Fairport Convention, once again proves his talent as a song smith with songs like ‘True Story of Amelia Earhart’s Last Night’ and ‘Even The Guiding Light.’ He also continues his research into the folk song, sharing his favorites with fans through a handful of outstanding covers, including Dave McEnry’s ‘Amelia Earhart’s Last Flight’ and Paul Siebel’s ‘Louise.’ Matthews also, as always, has a talent for surrounding himself with excellent musicians, this time employing the help of Andy Roberts, Dave Richards and Bob Ronga.

Quite simply one of Sun Ra’s best live albums. This rare recording finds Ra, along with a 19-piece Arkestra, playing a mix of his own compositions (‘Images’ and ‘Lights’) along with several jazz standards (including Jelly Roll Morton’s ‘King Porter Stomp’ and Duke Ellington’s ‘Lightnin”). While Ra’s own compositions were usually more avant-garde affairs, he always revelled in playing the classics as well in an effort to give his audience a lesson in jazz history. V/A LOCAL CUSTOMS: PRESSED AT BODDIE 2LP (numero group, usa)
Following our acquisition of the Boddie Recording Company in 2010, we began transferring a mountain of Cleveland gospel, soul, funk, boogie, rock, garage, folk, and every other manner of weirdness committed to tape that came through the Boddie’s door. Many of these tapes were left behind by the client some 30+ years ago, forgotten faster than the miniscule amount of records pressed at the Boddie plant. As our upcoming Boddie Recording Company box set deals with their in house Bounty, Soul Kitchen, Luau, Cookin’, and Soul Mine labels, we wanted to pay tribute to the Boddie’s pressing plant, which for about a decade was the epicenter of greater Cleveland’s small time record business. Included on Pressed At Boddie are 16 wildly different tracks, coming from a handful of different scenes. Pre-Pere Ubu synth-madness butts up against the group harmony stylings of the Imperial Wonders. Donald Eckert’s blown-out folk sits next to Bill Spoon’s modern dance moves. All in all, it’s a pretty awesome listen, crafted more like a mix tape than a historical document. And yet, this thing is pretty fucking historical. For openers, most Record Store Day records are trashy cash-ins. Bogus 7″ repros, expensive and needless live LPs, and perhaps the worst culprit of all, records that aren’t actually limited but are marketed as such (We’re looking at you Flaming Lips Dark Side Of The Moon). Numero understands what a cash grab this holiday has become, and instead has created the first must-own RSD album. Housed in a gatefold sleeve, Pressed At Boddie comes with the most insane discography (compiled by Ohio soul expert Dante Carfagna), a full color 18×22″ poster of labels, and a detailed history of the plant. And because we recognize that there are different kinds of buyers out there, we’re making this on CD (Burned at Boddie) and cassette (Dubbed at Boddie). This isn’t just some slap-dash, let’s-rape-the-customer job, we’ve spent as much time making this as we do every Numero album. There may be more colored vinyl in the field that day, but we highly doubt there will be anything that stacks up to Pressed At Boddie. lp limited edition of 1000. out of print from the label.
